Payroll Specialist

The City of Starke is seeking a Payroll Specialist. The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for the City of Starke Employees and works closely with the Finance Director to ensure all tasks are completed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Processes bi-weekly payroll accurately and in a timely manner for all City of Starke employees in accordance with Federal and State laws.
  • Sets up new benefit deductions for employees in the appropriate pay period for future deductions.
  • Processes all pension and commissioner payments monthly.
  • Tracks payroll data such as vacation time, insurance, 401(k) deductions, garnishments, etc.
  • Completes all Governmental and Tax reporting on a bi-weekly and monthly basis; to include, 941s, RTL and DOL.
  • Completes all Grant reporting including Police and Fire Departments, VOCA, etc.
  • Compiles annual Workers Compensation audit.
  • Assists the Finance Director with fiscal year audits.
  • Processes end of year W-2’s, 1099’s and 1095C’s.
  • Assists with daily bank deposits.
  • Posts daily web payments.
  • Assists the City Clerk, Finance Director and others as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a Payroll capacity preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state benefit laws required.
  • Minimum 1 year of administrative support experience required, preferably as a cashier or teller.
  • Prior experience utilizing Microsoft Office software to prepare correspondence, develop reports, utilize spreadsheets and create presentations required.
